Jane Remover
At the time of this review, Jane Remover is a 22-year-old non-binary musician from New Jersey, now located in Chicago, Illinois. Remover has mentioned that they are personally not religious, but often include religious imagery in their work. A perfect example of this is within their song JRJRJR.
"Let the DJ save your life, bro, we cheated death again
Feel like Jesus in the mosh pit, Mary on the cross with her friends
Mary on the cross with her friends, uh
Mary on the cross with her friends"
In these lines, Remover brings up imagery of Jesus and Mary. It could be said that she is reworking this biblical story, likening themselves to Jesus, in the mosh pit with their fans or followers, possibly saving their lives. Another interpretation could be that Remover wants to hide from the fame, be one of the crowd, and let Mary and Jesus switch places.
Additionally, Remover opens verse one with:
So should I change my name again?
Alluding to when they changed their name, as well as producer name. This further emphasizes their reworking of traditional stories into something relevant to their own life. Similarly to how some see Jesus as being “reborn,” transitioning for Queer people can also be seen as a rebirth as well.
